Aberdeen to Abuja: Presenting.

12/ 12/2014. It is exactly a year ago today.

We are returning to Abuja from Aberdeen after my graduation ceremony from the Robert Gordon University. Merit cried most of the time in-flight. She was skirmish, and would not sit down quietly.
Older sister Jane flew with us and carried her most of the time. Even though "aunt Doctor", as she called her aunt was her favourite person in the world, Merit did not stop being fuzzy all through the flight.

Airport. Abuja.

This was the first time I noticed something was really wrong. When we arrived at the Abuja  international airport and stood by the baggage claim stop to get our bags, I tried to put merit down so I can grab our bags. That was when I noticed the tremors. Merit could not stand on her feet anymore. Her whole body shook, especially her legs, they shook so much I quickly carried her again. She was hot, really febrile to the touch. When the bags rolled close, Merit pointed out her aunty Doctors luggage to me after I had forgotten what colour it was. It was a bloody-red bag with a silver handle.

Home.

I put Merit to sleep after some food.

I thought she only had some lingering flight sickness but when she woke with a persistent fever and an inability to walk the next day, my older sister and I drove her to the General hospital, Abuja, Nigeria. She was seen by a team of six doctors under a consultant neurologist pediatrician at the National Hospital.

Here are some photos from our trip.
